Antidorcas marsupialis
----------------------
English: Springbuck
German: Springbock
French: Antidorcas
Spanish: Antilope
Distribution areas
------------------
The springbuck lives in South Africa and
often is raised in zoos.
Description of the fur
----------------------
The skins are about 150 - 150 cm long
and the tail is 20 to 32 cm long. The coat The surface structure
is coarse and consists of red-brown and of the skin, 60x
yellow-brown hair fibres. There are black
stripes on the sides and the belly part is white. The undercoat is coloured
similarly to the upper parts of the coat. The thickness of the coat is from 25
to 45 mm and up to 120 mm in the neck part.

Structure of the hair
---------------------
The fine fur fibres are circular in
cross-section with a diameter from 10 to 30
µm. The cuticular scales are cornet-like or
even, tile-like with a smooth surface and
straight scale margins. The medulla is wide,
longitudinally interrupted and central
symmetrical-shaped, in cross-section. The cuticular structure
of the fine fibres, 1000x
The overall structure of the medulla
belongs to the non-symmetrical non-uniform lattice type. These fine fibres are
very few in number.
The intermediate fibres are sickle shaped or elliptical in cross-section,
with a diameter measuring from 50 to 90 µm. The cuticular scales are even,
tile-like with a smooth surface and straight scale margins.

The medulla is predominating or wide,
unbroken and central symmetrical-shaped
in cross-section. The overall structure of
the medulla is of the lattice type with the
needle-sheet-like infilling material.
The guard hairs are elliptical at the
bottom, and flat-shaped or sickle-shaped in
the middle and upper parts of the shaft. The The cuticular structure
diameter is from 90 to 135 µm. The cuticular of an intermediate hair, 600x
scales are even, tile-like with a smooth
scale surface and straight scale margins. The medulla is wide or sometimes
predominating, axially unbroken and central-symmetrical in shape. The overall
medullary pattern belongs to the lattice type with the infilling material of
the needle-sheet-like structure.
