Description of the fur
---------------------- The surface structure
The coat is relatively coarse and of the skin, 100x
coloured in dark brown, but also other
shades of black and brown colour. The hair coat is about 35 mm thick, the
hair fibres are straight and usually darker at the bottom. The undercoat
layer is not distinguishable.

Structure of the hair
---------------------
The microscopic structure of the skin
surface is furrowed. The hair follicles are
narrow with raised edges. The follicles are
single haired.
The fine fur fibres are few in number.
Their cross-sectional outline is circular The cuticular structure
and they are 10 to 25 µm thick. The of the fine fibres, 600x
cuticular scales are cornet-like with a
smooth surface and straight scale margins. These fibres are
non-medullated.

Intermediate fibres and guard hairs are
very similar in structure; the only
difference can be found in the diameter of
the shafts. The cross-sectional outline is
circular in shape and the diameter is
between 35 and 80 µm. The cuticular scales
are even, tile-like, with an irregularly
grooved surface and straight scale margins.
The medullary column is usually wide, Longitudinal section
unbroken an central symmetrical-shaped. The of an intermediate fibre, 1000x
overall shape of the medulla is the
non-symmetrical non-uniform lattice type with a complex-sheet-like infilling
material.
